NPP Unity Challenge Lies at the Top, Not Grassroots – Pollster Mussa Dankwah

Analytics, Mussa Dankwah, says polling data shows the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s biggest post-primary unity challenge is not among ordinary delegates but among senior campaign leaders and top figures.
Speaking on PM Express on Monday, February 2, 2026, Dankwah stated that the party’s grassroots remain largely united and optimistic despite the heated flagbearer contest.
“The polling data shows that about 88% of NPP delegates are hopeful that there will be unity in the party,” he said.
“The grassroots — the problem is not them.”
He identified the real risk as existing higher up the structure.
“The problem will be at the top level of the campaigns,” Dankwah warned, explaining that unresolved disagreements among leading figures could hinder efforts to consolidate support and prepare for 2028.
“Once we are able to reconcile them, I don’t think there’ll be a problem at the bottom,” he added.
Dankwah stressed that the next phase must bring clarity on roles and visible reconciliation among the key actors who contested the primary.
“Now, moving forward, how do you do that? What role does Ken Agyapong want to play going forward? What role does Bryan want to play in the campaign going forward?” he asked.
He insisted that unity must be placed above personal ambition.
“They must be seen to have put a sense of unity above everything else.”
Dankwah warned that the stakes are too high for any lingering fractures.
“For where NPP is now, they don’t need any division in their ranks to really face the NDC going forward,” he said.
While remaining optimistic, he acknowledged that sentiment appears uneven across factions.
“What sometimes you get to feel is that as people around Ken’s team are a lot more bitter,” he noted.
The comments come shortly after Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was declared winner of the January 31 primary with 56.48% of the vote, setting the stage for the NPP’s rebuilding and campaign efforts toward 2028.
