NPP National Delegates Conference Draws Over 5,600 Delegates Amid Tight Security

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is hosting its National Delegates Conference today, July 19, 2025, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra, with 5,675 delegates expected to attend, as announced by the Planning Committee Chairman, Joseph Osei-Owusu.

The event, themed “Rebuilding Together with Our Values,” aims to address the party’s 2024 election loss through 59 proposed constitutional amendments to strengthen internal structures and prepare for the 2028 elections.

Key discussions include expanding the delegate base for presidential candidate selection, potentially abolishing the Special Electoral College.

Despite a legal challenge from two members, Shamsudeen Iddrisu and Boateng Kwadwo, seeking to halt the conference for alleged constitutional violations, the NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, confirmed no court notice was served, allowing the event to proceed.

Security is stringent, with joint operations between state agencies and the party’s internal security, including accreditation checks and a ban on campaign materials to ensure order.

The agenda includes the National Chairman’s statement, General Secretary’s report, and National Treasurer’s financial overview, with over 600 journalists accredited to cover the event.
