NPP holds National Delegates Conference Today

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is holding its National Delegates Conference today, July 19, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium, with over 5,500 delegates expected to attend.

Themed “Rebuilding Together with our Values,” the conference aims to address the party’s 2024 election defeat through 59 proposed constitutional amendments to reshape structures, boost grassroots mobilization, and refine democratic processes for the 2028 elections.

A key proposal involves expanding the delegate base for selecting the presidential candidate, potentially reforming the Special Electoral College, though adoption timelines are uncertain, with the January 31, 2026, primaries likely using the current constitution.

A legal challenge threatens the event, as party members Shamsudeen Iddrisu and Boateng Kwadwo filed a High Court motion on July 17, 2025, seeking an injunction, claiming the NPP violated its constitution by skipping required constituency and regional conferences. They argue the National Council lacked authority to waive these prerequisites, and their petition to the NEC was ignored.

The hearing is set for July 24, but NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, stated no court notice has been served, indicating the party plans to proceed.

The agenda includes the National Chairman’s statement, General Secretary’s report, and National Treasurer’s financial overview, with a strict ban on campaign materials enforced by a dedicated team to ensure unity.
