NPP Flagbearer Primary: Bawumia Emerges Winner as Kennedy’s Early Lead Fades

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has emerged as the winner of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary, according to emerging trends and reports from various centres.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong held an early lead in several constituencies but faded in the final stages as Dr Bryan Acheampong gained significant ground in key areas. Despite the late surge from the Acheampong camp, Bawumia maintained a consistent and decisive position throughout the count.

Current partial trends show:

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia — overall winner

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong — approximately 32%

Dr Bryan Acheampong — strong late momentum in multiple regions

The KENNECTED (Agyapong) camp struggled to match the financial influence and delegate mobilisation of the BAWULATED (Bawumia) team in the final hours, which many observers say contributed to the shift in momentum.

Voting involved more than 211,000 delegates across the country. Official results are still being collated and expected to be announced by the NPP Presidential Elections Committee later today.

The outcome positions Dr Bawumia as the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections, subject to final confirmation.

The process has been largely peaceful despite isolated tensions at some centres, with party leaders calling for unity behind the elected candidate.
