NPP Flagbearer Aspirants Ballot for Positions: Kennedy Agyapong Secures Top Spot

In a key step toward its January 31, 2026, presidential primary, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) conducted balloting for its five flagbearer aspirants on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the party’s Asylum Down headquarters, determining their order on the ballot paper.
Former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong drew the coveted No. 1 position, giving him top billing on the ballot.
Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Agriculture Minister, secured second place, followed by frontrunner and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in third.
Rounding out the lineup are former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum in fourth and former General Secretary Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong in fifth.
The process, supervised by the NPP’s National Elections Committee, adhered strictly to the party’s July 29, 2025, guidelines, which required aspirants to pay a GH¢500,000 development fee and GH¢100,000 filing fee.
Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed stressed compliance: “All candidates who have met the guidelines… will be balloting today. Nobody is going to be excused.”
Agyepong’s team confirmed participation despite debates over the development fee, with Communications Director Paul Abdul Rahman Issah Dowuona stating Agyepong opposes it as a prerequisite but pledged substantial party support.
The balloting, starting at 11:00 a.m., ensures a fair draw, with the notice of poll to follow on October 17.
