Nkenkaaso Chiefs and Residents Laud President Mahama for 24-Hour Ultramodern Market Project
Traditional leaders and jubilant residents of Nkenkaaso in the Offinso North District have showered praise on President John Dramani Mahama for selecting their community as the site for a cutting-edge 24-hour ultramodern market, a move hailed as a transformative boost to local development and economic vitality.
The announcement has sparked widespread celebration in the farming and trading hub, with crowds gathering to voice their appreciation during a media address at the heart of the town. Speaking on behalf of the Nkenkaaso Hemaa, Nana Kofi Takyi – the Afasie Bon Mmranteɛ Hene and a respected palace elder – extended heartfelt gratitude to the President, the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and the Minister for Local Government.
“This visionary decision by His Excellency President Mahama and his administration will not only elevate Nkenkaaso but will serve as a beacon of progress for the entire Offinso North District,” Nana Kofi Takyi declared amid cheers from residents. “The strategic location of this 24-hour market will drive massive development, invigorate our local economy, create sustainable jobs, and foster greater unity among our people.”
The ultramodern facility is expected to operate around the clock, providing traders – especially women and youth in agro-processing and retail – with enhanced opportunities to expand their businesses beyond daylight hours. Residents anticipate improved infrastructure, including cold storage units, sanitary facilities, security measures, and access to electricity, which will reduce post-harvest losses and attract merchants from neighboring communities.
Nkenkaaso, known for its vibrant yam and cassava markets, has long advocated for upgraded trading infrastructure to match its growing commercial potential. The project aligns with the Mahama administration’s “24-Hour Economy” policy, aimed at stimulating nighttime economic activity, generating employment, and positioning Ghana as a competitive player in regional trade.
Community leaders emphasized that the market will strengthen social cohesion by serving as a central hub for cultural exchange, conflict resolution, and youth empowerment programs. “This is more than a market – it is a legacy of inclusive growth,” Nana Kofi Takyi added.
Government officials have confirmed that feasibility studies and land preparations are underway, with construction set to commence in the first quarter of 2026. The initiative forms part of broader investments in rural infrastructure outlined in the 2026 Budget, reflecting a commitment to equitable development across Ghana’s districts.
