NDC Launches Internal Probe into Alleged Threat Against Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor

The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has initiated internal processes to investigate claims by prominent activist and Fix The Country convenor, Osagyefo Oliver Barker-Vormawor, that he received a threatening message from individuals he suspects are linked to the party.
Deputy General Secretary in charge of Operations, Mustapha Gbande, disclosed this in an official statement, confirming that the matter has been escalated to the party’s highest leadership for immediate review and necessary action.
“My attention has been drawn to a publication indicating that Mr. Oliver Barker-Vormawor has alleged that he received a threatening message from individuals he suspects to be affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC),” Gbande stated.
He added: “As the Party’s Deputy General Secretary in charge of Operations, I have, in a similar vein, forwarded this matter to the General Secretary and the National Chairman for their review and necessary action.”
Gbande emphasised that the NDC maintains strict standards of discipline and would not tolerate any behaviour that undermines its values or brings the party into disrepute.
“In the meantime, the NDC has, over the years, evolved into a modern political party that transcends both older and newer generations. The Party maintains a high standard of discipline, order and conduct among its members… Any conduct to the contrary is wholly unacceptable and will be unequivocally condemned,” he noted.
The party also announced that it will directly engage Barker-Vormawor to obtain more details about the alleged threat.
“The Party will reach out to Mr. Oliver Barker-Vormawor to assist us with further and better particulars regarding this allegation, to enable the leadership to address the matter appropriately,” Gbande said.
He reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to democratic principles, stating clearly that the party does not support threats or intimidation of any kind.
“At no point will the NDC tolerate threats to human life or any form of intimidation,” he declared.
The development comes amid heightened political tensions, with Barker-Vormawor being a vocal critic of the current administration. The NDC’s swift response is seen as an attempt to distance the party from the alleged threat and maintain its public image.
Further updates are expected once the party’s leadership completes its internal review and engages directly with the activist.
