NAIMOS Seizes 15 Motorbikes in Anti-Galamsey Operation Along Offin River

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has seized 15 motorbikes during an anti-galamsey operation at Eniamoah near Ntoboroso in the Ashanti Region.

The operation, carried out on April 13, 2026, between 11:20 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., followed intelligence reports of intensified illegal mining activities along the Offin River.

Illegal miners flee scene

A task force from Manso Adubia moved swiftly to the riverside, where they discovered extensive illegal mining operations being conducted directly on the river.

However, upon sighting the approaching officers, the miners fled into nearby bushes, abandoning their equipment and motorbikes.

Equipment confiscated

The team confiscated 15 motorbikes, believed to belong to the fleeing miners, as part of efforts to disrupt their operations.

Officials noted that the scale of activity at Eniamoah points to a growing concentration of illegal mining along that stretch of the river, raising concerns about environmental damage and water pollution.

Intensified enforcement

NAIMOS indicated that its Blue Water Guards will intensify patrols in Eniamoah and Ntoboroso to prevent a resurgence of illegal mining activities.

The Secretariat reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the Offin River and curbing galamsey, which continues to pose a major threat to Ghana’s water bodies and ecosystem.
