The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), in collaboration with the National Security’s Special Operations Department, has arrested two persons in an intelligence-led operation at Weija in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
The operation, conducted on Thursday, September 3, 2026, followed weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering by undercover officers.
The main suspect, identified as 51-year-old Jibreel Hardi, was intercepted at about 11:00 a.m. while allegedly on his way to meet a prospective buyer.
According to NACOC, officers searched his vehicle and found quantities of dried leaves wrapped in polythene, suspected to be cannabis, along with several packets of Tramadol.
The joint security team subsequently proceeded to Hardi’s residence, where additional quantities of the suspected cannabis and Tramadol were allegedly recovered.
A firearm and 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition were also retrieved from the residence.
Wife arrested as alleged accomplice
Hardi’s 42-year-old wife, Abiba Fatawu, was subsequently arrested at the residence over her alleged involvement as an accomplice and collaborator in the activities under investigation.
The two suspects have since been taken to the NACOC Headquarters for processing as investigations continue.
Authorities say the items seized during the operation will undergo forensic examination as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
NACOC is expected to continue its investigations to determine the extent of the suspects’ alleged involvement and establish whether other persons may be connected to the case.
