Accra Mayor Urges Strict Compliance with Ga State Ban on Drumming and Noise-Making

The Mayor of , , has appealed to residents, religious bodies, traditional groups and the general public to strictly observe the annual ban on drumming and noise-making currently in force across the Ga State.

According to the Mayor, the directive forms part of the longstanding customary practices of the Ga people and must be respected by everyone living and working within the affected communities.

Speaking on the commencement of the ban, he noted that the , the Ga Mantse , and the Greater Accra Regional Minister, , are collaborating to ensure full compliance throughout the period.

The Mayor explained that the observance is not only a traditional requirement but also a period dedicated to peace, reflection and prayers for Ghana.

He urged the public to refrain from drumming, loud music, excessive noise-making and other activities that could disturb public peace during the month-long observance.

Churches, mosques and other religious bodies were also advised to avoid the use of drums, loud instruments, microphones and clapping during worship services.

He further cautioned that city authorities, together with the Ga Traditional Council and the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, would strictly enforce the directive.

Mr Allotey called on residents to cooperate peacefully and avoid actions that could create tension between the public and traditional authorities.

“Respect for customary laws is necessary for peaceful coexistence. Residents must give Caesar what belongs to Caesar by observing the directive,” he stated.
