Naa Koryoo Denies Denying Attack: ‘I Told Taskforce My Convoy Was Tailed by Hawa Koomson’s V8’ – Challenges Muntaka’s Claims on Election Violence Probe

Awutu Senya East MP Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor has vehemently denied Interior Minister Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka’s assertion that she rejected claims of an attack on her convoy during the 2024 elections, accusing him of misrepresenting her testimony to the presidential taskforce on election violence.
At a press conference in Parliament on Thursday, Naa Koryoo clarified her statements to the committee investigating clashes from 2020 to 2024, insisting she reported being followed by a V8 vehicle allegedly belonging to her rival, Mavis Hawa Koomson, and a green-plated NADMO pickup. “I stated emphatically that on election day, during my rounds, I noticed my convoy being followed… I decided to go home because I felt my life was in danger,” she said, denying any denial of the incident.
Muntaka, briefing on November 4, claimed Naa Koryoo was not at the scene of Yusif Larri Idriss’s shooting death and that witnesses refused to testify. Naa Koryoo countered, “Does the unwillingness of eye witnesses mean these acts didn’t happen? Even if there’s record of loss of life and injuries?” She noted she hasn’t given an official police statement yet due to “ill treatment” from the 2020 violence and urged the taskforce to rely on available videos for fairness.
The MP, who won the seat in 2024 amid controversy, called for unity and reconciliation, contrasting her approach with Koomson’s. “I consider myself a mother for all… unlike what transpired under the former MP.” She dismissed media attributions as “inaccurate” and vowed not to remain silent over an “inconclusive report.”
