Morocco Crowned 2025 AFCON Champions After Controversial Final Against Senegal.

Morocco has been awarded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after the final match against Senegal was overturned. The initial match on January 18 saw Senegal win 1-0, but the result was marred by controversy.
During stoppage time with the score tied, Senegalese players briefly refused to continue play when a penalty was awarded to Morocco. This caused a 17-minute delay before the game resumed. Morocco’s Brahim Diaz missed his penalty, and Senegal’s Pape Gueye scored the winning goal in extra time.
After reviewing the incident, CAF annulled the original result. In a statement, CAF declared that Senegal “forfeited the final match,” and the result has been recorded as a 3-0 victory for Morocco. This decision unexpectedly concludes one of the most debated finals in recent AFCON history, awarding Morocco the continental championship.
