Minority in Parliament Demands Accountability from Bank of Ghana Governor
The Minority in Parliament has formally requested a meeting with the Ghana Police Service to discuss preparations for a second #OccupyBoG demonstration, scheduled to take place in the coming weeks. The protest aims to demand the resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his deputies, citing gross mismanagement of the country’s economy.
A Call for Transparency and Accountability
The Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, emphasized the importance of maintaining order during the protest and requested the cooperation of the police to ensure the safety of all participants. He stressed that the previous #OccupyBoG demonstration was conducted peacefully, and the group intends to uphold the same standard in the upcoming event.
Reasons for the Protest
The planned protest is a response to the perceived gross mismanagement of the country’s economy under the leadership of the Bank of Ghana. The Minority has demanded accountability, transparency, and the immediate resignation of the central bank’s leadership, citing that their continued stay in office undermines public confidence in the financial system.
Meeting Request
The Minority has requested a meeting with the Police at a venue and time of their choice to consider the modalities for the demonstration. They hope to agree on a date for the protest and avoid any disruptions to public order.
