Ministry of Health Urges Doctors to Accept Postings for Equitable Distribution, Warns Against Unauthorized Fees

The Ministry of Health has called on newly qualified doctors to accept postings to underserved regions and district hospitals, emphasizing that placements are conducted strictly through the official online portal to promote equitable healthcare distribution across Ghana.

In a press release signed by Head of Health Training Institution and Spokesperson Tonny Goodman on November 3, the Ministry stressed that no individual or group has been authorized to collect money or influence assignments. “All qualified doctors are encouraged to visit the official Ministry of Health website to complete their registration before the approved deadline,” the statement said.

The initiative addresses chronic shortages in rural and northern areas, where doctor-to-patient ratios lag behind urban centers—1:10,000 versus 1:2,000 in Accra, per 2024 Ghana Health Service data. Doctors must register via the portal at www.hr.moh.gov.gh, with placements based on merit and needs.

The Ministry warned against scams, noting that demand for bribes violates the Public Services Commission Regulations and could lead to disqualification. “The placement is being done strictly through the official online portal,” Goodman reiterated.

This follows a 15% rise in medical graduates in 2025, with over 500 new doctors needing deployment. The government aims for a 1:5,000 ratio by 2030, aligning with WHO standards
