Middle-Aged Man Shot Dead in Broad Daylight in Asawase, Kumasi

On July 25, 2025, a middle-aged man was fatally shot in broad daylight in Asawase, a suburb of Kumasi in the Asokore Mampong Municipality, Ashanti Region.
The victim, whose identity is withheld pending family notification, was gunned down by two unknown assailants on a motorbike while approaching his vehicle after eating at a food joint. Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers fired multiple shots at close range, killing him instantly before fleeing the scene.
The incident, the second shooting in Asawase that week, has heightened fears among residents already shaken by the July 22, 2025, assassination of Abdul-Malik Azenbe, the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region, in a similar motorbike attack. The Ashanti Regional Police Command, led by DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, has confirmed the killing and deployed police and military personnel to secure the area, with crime scene investigators actively collecting evidence.
Community leaders and residents, expressing outrage and concern over rising violent crime, are demanding increased police presence and swift action to apprehend the perpetrators. The police have promised a thorough investigation but have not confirmed any connection between the two shootings.
Authorities also announced plans to intensify patrols in crime-prone areas to curb further incidents. The spate of violence has sparked calls for stronger measures to combat crime in Kumasi and across Ghana.
