Ghanaian midfielder Majeed Ashimeru has ended his five-year spell with Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht after both parties agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent.
The 28-year-old was entering the final year of his contract, which was originally scheduled to run until the summer of 2027. However, Anderlecht confirmed on Wednesday that the agreement had been ended ahead of schedule.
The Belgian club said Ashimeru had not been part of its sporting plans for some time and that the decision would give him the opportunity to pursue the next chapter of his career.
Ashimeru initially joined Anderlecht on loan from Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg in January 2021 before completing a permanent transfer later that year.
During his time with the Brussels-based side, he made 129 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing six assists.
His Anderlecht career was, however, disrupted by recurring injuries, while increased competition for places also limited his involvement during his later seasons.
In the 2025/26 campaign, Ashimeru spent time on loan at Belgian side RAAL La Louvière, where he made nine league appearances.
Before that loan spell, Anderlecht had also moved him to the RSCA Futures setup after indicating in 2025 that he was no longer part of the club’s long-term plans.
His departure leaves Ashimeru as a free agent as he searches for a new club and a fresh opportunity to revive his career.
The midfielder developed at WAFA in Ghana before moving to Europe, where he gained experience with Red Bull Salzburg and other clubs during loan spells.
He has also represented the Ghana Black Stars at senior international level.
Ashimeru will now turn his attention to finding his next destination as he seeks regular playing time and a fresh start in his career.
