President John Dramani Mahama has expressed confidence in the five-member Bawku Revitalisation Committee established to support the rebuilding of infrastructure and restore economic activity in the conflict-affected area.
The committee, inaugurated on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, is expected to accelerate development, support the restoration of livelihoods and help create conditions for residents and businesses in Bawku and surrounding communities to resume productive activities.
The committee is chaired by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and comprises:
- Mahama Ayariga, MP for Bawku Central
- Cletus Abugre, Tamapani Chief
- Donatus Akamugri Atanga, Upper East Regional Minister
- Thomas Anaba, MP for Garu
Speaking at the inauguration, President Mahama said the government’s focus goes beyond rebuilding physical infrastructure to creating an environment where residents can rebuild their livelihoods.
He said the revitalisation fund would be used to provide infrastructure and support other areas identified by the committee, with several districts within the Bawku area expected to benefit.
President Mahama expressed confidence in the committee members, saying their experience, integrity and record in public service would enable them to effectively execute the assignment.
The initiative forms part of the government’s broader efforts to restore normalcy and development in Bawku following prolonged instability, while ensuring that affected communities receive their fair share of national development.
