Lumba Family Announces New Funeral Dates for Iconic Highlife Legend Daddy Lumba

The immediate family of the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, known worldwide as Daddy Lumba, has set new dates for his funeral rites. This comes after family disputes led to earlier postponements and a dissolved committee.
Daddy Lumba died on July 26, 2025, at Bank Hospital in Accra at age 60. His one-week observance was on August 30, 2025, in Accra. Initial funeral plans for December 6, 2025, were moved to December 13 due to family conflicts, including a court case over his widow and an invocation of the Asantehene’s oath. On November 24, 2025, the family disowned an unauthorized announcement.
After talks with elders, the spokesperson said the changes allow better prep, more family input, and full cultural rites.
New schedule:
State Burial: Tuesday, March 24, 2026 – Accra
Lying-in-State: Thursday, March 26, 2026 – Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi
Burial: Friday, March 27, 2026 – Parkoso Royal Cemetery
Final Funeral Rites: Saturday, March 28, 2026 – Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi
Thanksgiving Service: Sunday, March 29, 2026 – Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi
The family thanked the public for support. “This gives us time to celebrate his life in peace and unity,” a representative said.
Fans, musicians, and leaders plan to honor his 30+ albums and hits like “Sika Asem” and “Aben Wo Ha.” Prep is underway for a fitting farewell.
