Eric Adjei, Project Coordinator for Lightwave eHealth Solutions, has challenged the impartiality of an audit conducted by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), alleging that a competitor was involved in the process and that GH₵10.45 million allocated to the company was redirected to the auditing entity in 2024.
Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show, Adjei expressed full cooperation with legitimate investigations but questioned the decision to involve a rival firm. “We do not have any problem with any institution going to do an audit or investigation. But again, why do you send a competitor to go do an audit?” he asked.
He described the fund redirection as “surprising” and stated that only the Minister of Health could provide clarity on the matter. Adjei hinted at underlying motives, saying, “There is some form of hidden mystery which I think it is only the minister of health, the current minister of health, that will be able to answer because we’ve done our checks, and everything points to one particular direction.”
The dispute stems from allegations by the Ministry of Health that Lightwave breached a $100 million contract by failing to connect 950 health facilities to its Lightwave Health Information Management System (LHIMS). Adjei rejected the claims, insisting the company has fulfilled its obligations and that the audit irregularities suggest deeper issues.
Lightwave eHealth Solutions has played a central role in Ghana’s digital health transformation, enhancing data management, operational efficiency, and service delivery across the national healthcare system.
The controversy underscores persistent challenges in transparency, contract oversight, and fairness in public-private partnerships within the health sector.
