Lawyer Demands Full List of GoldBod’s Gold Suppliers for Transparency

A Ghanaian lawyer has asked the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) to share details of all small-scale miners who sell gold to the state. He wants this to stop illegal mining and protect Ghana’s wealth.
In a Right to Information (RTI) request, lawyer Eric Dawda wrote to GoldBod and its CEO, Sammy Gyamfi. He wants a full list of miners and licensed companies that supply gold.
He asked for:
Their names
Licence numbers
Dates of sales
Amount of gold sold
Regions where they work
Dawda says this will prove only legal miners sell to GoldBod. Without it, illegal miners can join the system.
He also wants:
Policy documents
Operation manuals
Money records
Rules for testing, pricing, buying, and exporting gold
Export records
“Gold is key to Ghana’s economy. We need to know who sells it and how it is handled. This fights corruption and helps the country,” he said.
Ghana’s RTI law says public offices must give information on time, unless there is a good reason not to.
Dawda warned he will take legal steps if GoldBod does not follow the law.
GoldBod was set up to control small-scale gold buying. The sector has problems like illegal mining, harm to nature, and lost money.
GoldBod has not replied to the request yet.
