Residents of Lawra and surrounding communities can once again access dedicated emergency ambulance services following the restoration of the municipality’s ambulance after more than two years out of service.
The ambulance had been grounded after suffering a major engine breakdown, creating challenges for emergency referrals and access to timely pre-hospital care, particularly for pregnant women, road traffic accident victims and critically ill patients.
The restoration of the ambulance was made possible through the intervention of the Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service (NAS), Dr. (Med.) George Kojo Owusu, whose leadership facilitated the resolution of the long-standing mechanical problem.
Following the completion of the repairs, the ambulance was formally handed over to the Lawra Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Cecelia Soyelle, marking the official restoration of emergency ambulance services in the municipality.
The Officer-in-Charge, PAEMT Nuatro Stephen, described the return of the ambulance as a major relief for residents who had endured the prolonged absence of a dedicated emergency vehicle.
“For over two years, our people have struggled without a dedicated emergency ambulance. Today, we are happy to announce that the Lawra Ambulance has been fully repaired and is back in commission. We are back to serve,” he said.
He assured residents of the National Ambulance Service’s commitment to providing timely and professional emergency medical care and urged the public to seek emergency assistance promptly whenever the need arises.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Cecelia Soyelle, also commended the leadership of the National Ambulance Service for prioritising the restoration of the ambulance.
According to her, the prolonged absence of the vehicle had placed considerable pressure on the municipal health system and affected the timely referral of patients requiring urgent medical attention.
She assured the National Ambulance Service of the Assembly’s support towards maintaining the ambulance and appealed to residents to protect and support it as an important community asset.
The return of the ambulance has been welcomed as a significant boost to emergency healthcare delivery in Lawra and surrounding communities.
With the ambulance now stationed at its base and fully operational, residents can once again count on dedicated emergency response services, particularly during medical emergencies, road crashes and other critical situations.
