Laryea Kingston Backs Otto Addo Amid Calls for Black Stars Leadership Change

Former Ghana U-17 coach Laryea Kingston has voiced unwavering support for Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, urging the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to resist calls for a leadership overhaul despite the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In an interview with Flashscore, Kingston cautioned against making hasty decisions, emphasizing that replacing Addo and his technical team could have dire consequences for the national team’s future.

“If we change the coach and the technical team and bring new faces, it will be a disaster,” Kingston remarked. “I think we should allow him to finish at least the World Cup qualifiers—who knows? Maybe he can qualify. After that, we decide on a country. So we should give him another opportunity.”

Kingston’s appeal follows Ghana’s disappointing AFCON qualifiers. The team failed to secure a single victory, earning only three points across six matches.

The GFA’s Executive Council is scheduled to meet on Wednesday to assess the team’s performance and deliberate on the path forward. While public frustration mounts over the Black Stars’ poor form, Kingston believes stability in leadership could help salvage the team’s prospects in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

This debate marks a critical moment for Ghanaian football as the nation grapples with rebuilding trust and hope in its flagship team.
