Kwabena Abankwa Yeboah Files for NPP First Vice Chairman, Pledges Unity and Structural Reforms
Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Treasurer, Kwabena Abankwa Yeboah, has officially filed his nomination to contest the position of First Vice Chairman in the party’s upcoming national elections.
Mr Yeboah, who served as National Treasurer for two terms, is campaigning on a message of unity, fairness, transparency and structural rebuilding as the NPP seeks to reorganise ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking to the press after filing his nomination, he said his decision to contest was informed by more than three decades of service to the party at various levels.
“For 33 years, I have served this great party at every level, as polling station chairman in the Klottey Korley Constituency, as Greater Accra Regional Treasurer, and then as National Treasurer for two terms,” he said.
According to Mr Yeboah, his long experience within the party has given him a clear understanding of the challenges confronting the NPP, particularly the effects of internal divisions.
He said fairness, transparency and inclusion were essential to rebuilding trust among party members.
Track Record as National Treasurer
Mr Yeboah highlighted several initiatives undertaken during his tenure as National Treasurer, including measures aimed at strengthening the party’s financial systems and ensuring that resources reached constituencies without discrimination.
“As immediate past National Treasurer, I worked closely and cordially with my fellow national officers, regional officers, and with all the constituencies. We introduced timely support that reached all constituencies without favouritism,” he said.
He also said the party introduced systems requiring constituencies to open dedicated accounts to safeguard party funds and improve financial accountability.
“We built systems that serve the whole party and its constituents,” he added.
Mr Yeboah further cited the acquisition of landed property for a new party headquarters and the establishment of a printing facility at the party’s head office among the initiatives undertaken during his tenure.
He said the printing facility had helped reduce the party’s printing expenses while also improving the security and integrity of party materials.
He also pointed to fundraising initiatives such as the Adopt-a-Polling-Station programme and the NPP donation scratch card, popularly known as Ketua Biaa Nsua, as examples of innovative approaches introduced to support the party financially.
Agenda for First Vice Chairman
Outlining his vision for the position, Mr Yeboah said his administration would focus on opening the party to greater participation, strengthening unity and rebuilding its grassroots structures.
“This experience taught me that unity grows when people feel respected and involved, when resources and opportunities are shared fairly, and when leaders listen more than they talk,” he said.
He pledged to work closely with the National Chairman if elected and support efforts to restore confidence among party members.
“If elected First Vice Chairman of our great party, I shall pursue this same approach — to open doors wider, unite our people, rebuild our party structures, and stand firmly behind our National Chairman to work tirelessly to restore hope and trust, which are essential for victory in 2028,” he said.
Calls for Collective Effort
Mr Yeboah acknowledged the challenges facing the NPP following its electoral defeat but expressed confidence in the party’s ability to recover.
He called on party members to put aside divisions and work collectively towards rebuilding the party.
“The challenges that confront us as a party are enormous. But the spirit that has sustained us for generations is still alive and is calling us all to move forward,” he said.
He therefore appealed to delegates to support his candidacy and contribute to the party’s rebuilding process.
“United we can recover the lost ground and strive ahead,” he said.
Mr Yeboah’s campaign is anchored on the theme: “United to Rebuild, Ready to Win the 2028 Election.”
The NPP National Delegates Conference is scheduled to elect new national officers on October 3, 2026, in Kumasi, as the party prepares to reorganise and position itself for the 2028 general elections.
