Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Invests GH¢11.3 Million in Advanced ENT Equipment to Enhance Specialist Care.

Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has commissioned new, state-of-the-art equipment valued at GH¢11.3 million, aimed at enhancing the diagnosis and treatment of ear, nose, and throat (ENT) conditions and improving specialist care in Ghana. The advanced technology has been installed in the Endoscopy Room, ENT Unit, and Audiology Centre.

The hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam, alongside hospital directors and a team from New Allied, officially unveiled the equipment.

Dr. Adam emphasized that this significant investment aims to eliminate the need for Ghanaians to travel abroad for specialized ENT care, stating, “Our objective in investing heavily in this equipment is to provide all the necessary modalities required so that no Ghanaian will have to leave the shores of Ghana to seek care elsewhere.”

He highlighted that the new systems will boost efficiency and elevate the standard of patient treatment. He also stressed the importance of proper equipment handling and training for young residents.

Professor Emmanuel D. Kitcher, former Head of the Department, described the equipment as highly valuable, placing Korle Bu among the few hospitals in West Africa with such advanced technology.

He noted the positive impression it makes on visiting surgeons and called for robust systems to ensure its proper maintenance due to its cost and delicate nature.

Dr. Kafiu Searyoh, the current Head of the Department, provided details on the equipment’s expected impact on service delivery. Chief Audiologist Mrs. Jemima Fynn introduced new hearing assessment systems, including vestibular testing equipment and various auditory evoked potential machines, alongside a mounted otoscope and other specialized devices.

Following a tour of the newborn hearing screening area, Mrs. Fynn assured that audiology services will see significant improvement with this new equipment. The investment, which includes an endoscopy tower and specialized workstations, is expected to significantly strengthen ENT services and broaden access to advanced medical care nationwide
