King Charles III Extends Warm Independence Day Wishes to Ghana

King Charles III has sent heartfelt congratulations to President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana on the occasion of the country’s 69th Independence Day, reaffirming the deep historical ties and ongoing partnership between Ghana and the United Kingdom.

In a formal message delivered to mark the national celebration on Friday, March 6, the British monarch expressed admiration for Ghana’s journey and the shared values that continue to bind the two nations within the Commonwealth.

“On the occasion of your Independence Day, my wife and I send our warmest congratulations to you and to the people of the Republic of Ghana,” King Charles wrote.

He highlighted the enduring relationship rooted in mutual respect and cooperation, noting that the Commonwealth remains a vital platform for collaboration among member states.

“It is with sincere appreciation that I reflect upon the enduring partnership between our nations, rooted in the shared values and mutual respect that define our Commonwealth,” the King stated.

The monarch also recalled the visit of his brother, Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, to Accra in November last year, describing it as a powerful reminder of the longstanding connections between the two countries.

“As my brother, H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh said on his visit to Accra in November, we share an extraordinary history and heritage,” he said. “We are grateful for the warm hospitality extended to him.”

King Charles paid special tribute to the Ghanaian diaspora living in the United Kingdom, praising their contributions to British society in areas such as business, education, the arts and culture. He described the community as a vital bridge that continues to strengthen ties between the two nations.

The message was delivered as Ghanaians across the country marked Independence Day with parades, cultural displays and reflections on the nation’s progress since achieving self-rule on March 6, 1957. President Mahama used the occasion to call for renewed discipline, accountability and national unity as Ghana prepares for its 70th independence anniversary next year.

The King’s words have been warmly received in Ghana, with many seeing them as a timely affirmation of the strong diplomatic and people-to-people bonds that persist between the two countries.
