Ken Ofori-Atta Released from U.S. ICE Custody

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been released from custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following a judicial order issued on April 7, 2026.

According to a statement from his legal team, Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline & Partners, Mr. Ofori-Atta has since returned home and reunited with his family.

“On April 7, 2026, Ken Ofori-Atta was released from ICE detention pursuant to a judicial order. He is now home with his family,” the statement confirmed.

The lawyers further indicated that he remains committed to defending himself through due process under U.S. law.

Mr. Ofori-Atta, who served as Finance Minister under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo from 2017 to early 2024, has been under investigation over decisions taken during his tenure.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor, led by Kissi Agyebeng, had in June 2025 initiated steps for an INTERPOL Red Notice after he failed to honour multiple invitations for questioning.

However, the Red Notice has since been withdrawn, meaning his details are no longer listed in INTERPOL’s system and member countries are no longer required to act on it.

His family has expressed appreciation to supporters for their prayers and encouragement during the period of his detention.
