Keche Defends Best Group Award Win Amid DopeNation Debate

Ghanaian music duo Keche has defended its recent Best Group award win following online debates about whether the group would still have won if rival duo DopeNation had been included in the category.

“We still deserved the award”

Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime, Keche member Joshua Kojo Ampah dismissed claims that the outcome would have changed if DopeNation had competed in the same category.

According to him, the Best Group category is judged based on overall performance and consistency throughout the year, not just on one popular song.

He stressed that people should not confuse “Best Group of the Year” with “Group Song of the Year.”

Keche cites active performance year

Joshua Kojo Ampah explained that Keche maintained a strong presence throughout the year, performing at numerous events across Ghana from September through the festive season into January.

“We were everywhere… actively last year,” he stated, arguing that the duo’s visibility and performance schedule justified their victory regardless of who else was nominated.

Online debate continues

The comments have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some fans agreeing that consistency and stage performances matter in award considerations, while others continue to debate the competitiveness of the category.

The discussion has also renewed comparisons between Keche and DopeNation, two of Ghana’s well-known music groups in recent years.
