Jubilee House to Hold Emergency Press Conference Following Ghana Air Force Helicopter Crash in Adansi Akrofuom

The Jubilee House is set to host an emergency press conference to address the tragic crash of a Ghana Air Force Z9 utility helicopter in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region, on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The aircraft, which departed Accra at 09:12 GMT en route to Obuasi with three crew members and five passengers on board, lost radar contact shortly after takeoff, prompting immediate search and rescue operations by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

The helicopter, reportedly carrying top government officials to the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) in Obuasi, crashed into a tree and was engulfed in flames, leaving the wreckage unrecognizable. Matthew Baah, the Assembly Member for the area, confirmed the incident on Adom FM’s Kasiebo Is Tasty, stating, “After the crash, everything went silent. Residents who rushed to the scene found the helicopter in flames.” Initial reports from the crash site indicate dismembered body parts, suggesting at least four fatalities, though the exact number and identities remain unconfirmed.

While the GAF has not yet officially linked the missing Z9 helicopter to the crash, eyewitness accounts and the timing of the incident strongly suggest a connection. Baah noted that poor weather conditions may have contributed to the crash, though the exact cause is still under investigation.

The GAF, in a statement signed by Acting Director General of Public Relations, Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, confirmed that efforts are underway to locate the aircraft and establish contact. “All efforts are being made to re-establish communication. Further details will be communicated soon,” the statement read.

The press conference, expected to be livestreamed, will provide updates on the ongoing search and rescue efforts and clarify whether the crashed helicopter is the missing Z9. Posts on X reflect public concern, with users sharing GAF’s announcement and calling for transparency.

This is a developing story, and further details are awaited as authorities investigate the tragedy and its impact on the planned rCOMSDEP event in Obuasi.
