Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has made his record of helping the party win elections the centrepiece of his campaign to become the NPP’s National Chairman.
Speaking during a campaign tour of the Western North Region, Mr Boadu told party delegates that the NPP needs an experienced and tested leader capable of guiding the party back to power in the 2028 general elections.
Mr Boadu said party members were looking beyond promises and speeches and were seeking a leader with a proven track record of delivering victory during difficult political contests.
“I am contesting because I have the experience and history of restoring power,” he said.
He added that his decision to contest was based on his belief that his experience and understanding of the party’s structures would be critical to rebuilding the NPP after its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
“At this moment, our party members are not seeking stories of promises nor untold history, but footprints of one who led us to victory when the battle was fiercest,” he said.
According to Mr Boadu, his years of involvement in the NPP have given him an understanding of the party’s internal structures, its members and the strategies required to win elections.
He said he had led the party to victory at times when its prospects appeared uncertain and internal unity was under pressure.
“I have led the NPP to victory at moments when hope was lost and unity was strained. I understand the science, structure and soul of this party and, of course, understand the strategies of winning elections,” he stated.
Mr Boadu said his engagements with party executives in the Western North Region focused on rebuilding the party, strengthening unity and restoring confidence among supporters ahead of the 2028 elections.
He said the NPP must work collectively to regain its winning spirit and position itself for a return to government.
“The message is clear: We must rebuild together, restore our winning spirit and prepare the NPP for victory in 2028,” he said.
He described his engagement with the regional executives as an opportunity to share his vision for a united, disciplined and stronger NPP while listening to concerns, ideas and aspirations from the grassroots.
The NPP Western North Regional Chairman, Pious Vincent Abekah, expressed support for Mr Boadu’s candidature, describing him as an experienced and tested politician capable of leading the party at its current stage.
“At this moment in our party’s history, we need an experienced and tested leader like John Boadu to lead us to victory,” Mr Abekah said.
Mr Boadu’s campaign tour of the Western North Region forms part of his broader efforts to engage party executives and secure their support ahead of the NPP’s National Chairman election.
His campaign is centred on the argument that the party’s return to power in 2028 will require a leader who understands its structures, can unite its members and has a proven record of winning difficult political contests.
