Interior Minister Warns Criminals as National Signals Bureau Office Opens in Sunyani

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has issued a strong warning to criminals, declaring that security agencies will “hunt them down,” following the commissioning of a new National Signals Bureau (NSB) regional command office in Sunyani in the Bono Region.

The establishment of the NSB Bono Regional Command forms part of government efforts to strengthen intelligence-led security operations and enhance national safety. The new office will serve as the main hub for intelligence coordination and security surveillance in the region, operating as part of Ghana’s wider national security framework.

The facility is equipped with advanced technological systems and is fully integrated into both regional and national surveillance networks, enabling real-time monitoring, intelligence gathering, analysis, and rapid response to security threats.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mr Muntaka cautioned individuals involved in criminal activities to abandon such acts, stressing that the state has the capacity and resolve to track down and deal decisively with offenders.

In a welcome address, the Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, praised the leadership and personnel of the National Signals Bureau for their professionalism and dedication to national service. He noted that the presence of the bureau in the region would significantly improve early warning systems and preventive security measures, rather than relying solely on reactive responses.

The Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, Dr George Atta Boateng, urged officers posted to the new command to uphold the highest standards of professionalism. He observed that modern security threats, including cybercrime and cross-border criminal activity, require sophisticated, technology-driven intelligence systems to effectively counter emerging risks.

National Security Coordinator, COP Abdul-Osman Razak, also highlighted the importance of collaboration among all security agencies, emphasising that maintaining peace and security is a shared responsibility between state institutions and the public.

He added that the success of the new command will depend not only on the commitment of security personnel but also on the cooperation of citizens in supporting national security efforts.
