IGP Deploys Reinforcement Teams to Enforce Curfew in Nalerigu After Arson Attacks

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has deployed reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to Nalerigu in the North East Region following recent arson attacks that have heightened tensions in the area.
The deployment, announced in a statement issued by the Police Public Affairs Unit, is aimed at restoring calm, protecting lives and property, and enforcing the government-imposed curfew in the regional capital and its surrounding communities.
The decision follows the burning of two houses in Nalerigu, allegedly by some youth, amid threats to set more houses ablaze and attack residents. The incidents have raised serious security concerns among locals, prompting swift action by the police hierarchy.
“The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has deployed reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to Nalerigu and its environs in the North East Region following the setting ablaze of two houses by some youth in the regional capital and threats to burn more houses and attack citizens,” the statement said.
In addition to maintaining order within the town, the reinforcement teams will support the North East Regional Police Command to intensify patrols along major highways to ensure the safety of commuters traveling through the region.
The police have assured residents that investigations into the arson attacks are ongoing and that all individuals involved will be arrested and prosecuted.
“The Command wishes to assure the general public, especially the people of Nalerigu, that investigations into the attacks and burning of the houses are ongoing and persons involved will be arrested and brought to justice,” the statement added.
