Hawa Koomson on Ablekuma North Assault: “I Leave It to God”

Former Fisheries Minister and Awutu Senya East MP Mavis Hawa Koomson spoke publicly for the first time since her assault during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun on July 11, 2025, addressing the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Delegates Conference in Accra on July 19, 2025.
Koomson, who was manhandled by unidentified thugs at the St. Peter’s Methodist Church polling station in Odorkor, revealed she is still receiving medical treatment but attended the conference to reassure supporters of her recovery.
In a viral video monitored by Ghbase News, she expressed disappointment that neither President John Dramani Mahama nor Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, both of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), had contacted her, stating,
“I don’t expect the President and Vice President to say anything to me because I’m not a member of their party… I leave it to God.”
Koomson, who used pepper spray in self-defense during the attack, maintained she had no ill intent and called for peace, while the NPP condemned the violence and demanded accountability.
