GRIDCo to Interrupt Power Supply for Emergency Tower Works at Ashaiman

The Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo) has announced that emergency works will be undertaken to replace a damaged tower on the Tema–Achimota 161kV transmission line at Ashaiman, leading to a temporary power interruption in parts of the Greater Accra Region.

In a statement issued on Friday, August 15, 2026, GRIDCo said the transmission tower was damaged when a fuel tanker exploded while welding work was being carried out on its tank within the transmission line Right-of-Way.

To facilitate the emergency replacement works and ensure the safety of personnel and the public, power supply to some locations in the Greater Accra Region will be interrupted on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 3:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

GRIDCo engineers and technical teams will use this period to safely undertake the required works and restore the integrity of the transmission line.

The company sincerely apologised to all affected customers for the inconvenience the planned outage will cause and appreciated the public’s patience and cooperation as these critical emergency works are undertaken.

GRIDCo also strongly reminded the public that encroachment on a lawfully acquired or assigned transmission line Right-of-Way is prohibited by law.
