Government Signals Difficulty Completing All Agenda 111 Hospitals

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has indicated that the current administration may not be able to complete all hospitals under the Agenda 111 initiative due to financial and practical constraints.
Reality Check on Completion
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, the Minister stressed the need for realism regarding the ambitious project launched under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to him:
The programme involves over 100 hospital projects
Many are at different stages of completion
Some remain in early phases requiring significant funding
“If we say we will complete all within one year or even four years, it is not realistic,” he stated.
Commitment with Caution
Mr. Akandoh emphasised that while government remains committed to improving healthcare infrastructure, it must:
Prioritise projects strategically
Align spending with available resources
Focus on completing facilities that are near completion
About Agenda 111
The Agenda 111 initiative was introduced as a flagship healthcare project to:
Build 111 hospitals nationwide
Improve access to healthcare, especially in underserved areas
Reduce pressure on existing major hospitals
The Challenge Ahead
The Minister’s remarks highlight key issues:
Funding gaps affecting large-scale infrastructure projects
Project continuity challenges after a change in government
The need for phased and prioritised implementation
Bottom Line
While Agenda 111 remains a critical vision for Ghana’s healthcare system, government signals that full completion may take longer than originally planned, with a more gradual, resource-driven approach likely to shape its future.
