Government Declares Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6, 2026 as Public Holidays for Good Friday and Easter Monday

The Ministry of the Interior has officially declared Friday, April 3, 2026 and Monday, April 6, 2026 as statutory public holidays across Ghana.

The announcement was made by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, in a statement issued on Monday, March 30, 2026.

These two days are traditionally observed as Good Friday and Easter Monday, important Christian holidays commemorating the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The declaration means government offices, public institutions, banks, and many private businesses are expected to close or operate with limited services on these dates, allowing citizens to participate in religious activities and family gatherings.

The Ministry urged all Ghanaians to use the holidays responsibly and to observe road safety measures, especially during the long weekend when many people are expected to travel.

This is in line with the annual practice of recognising major religious festivals as public holidays in Ghana.
