GNFS Rescues 21 Residents Trapped by Flooding at Doblo Gonno New Site

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully rescued 21 residents who were trapped in their homes following severe flooding at Doblo Gonno New Site in the Greater Accra Region.
The operation was triggered by heavy rainfall on Thursday, June 4, 2026, which caused floodwaters to rise rapidly and inundate several homes in the area.
Personnel from the Amasaman Fire Station responded promptly to a distress call and evacuated 11 females and 10 males from the affected community. The rescue was supervised by ADO I Aduamah Richard Ntow.
According to the GNFS, the timely intervention helped avert any potential loss of life amid the deluge, although many properties and personal belongings were submerged and damaged.
The Fire Service has urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant during periods of heavy rainfall and to move to safer grounds early whenever flood risks become apparent.
This latest flooding incident once again highlights the vulnerability of low-lying communities in parts of Greater Accra and the urgent need for sustainable solutions such as improved drainage infrastructure and better urban planning.
