Ghana’s Mobile Money Boom: GH¢3.6 Trillion in Transactions in Just 10 Months

Ghana’s mobile money scene is on fire! From January to October 2025, the total value of transactions soared to a massive GH¢3.6 trillion, according to the latest data from the Bank of Ghana.
This info comes straight from the central bank’s Economic and Financial Data update, released after last week’s Monetary Policy Committee meeting. It covers all transactions reported by telecom operators during those 10 months.
Monthly Growth Keeps Climbing
The numbers show steady gains:
September: GH¢406 billion
October: GH¢436 billion (a nice jump!)
How It Stacks Up Year After Year
First 10 months of 2024: GH¢2.368 trillion
Same period in 2023: GH¢1.367 trillion
First 8 months of 2024 alone: GH¢1.775 trillion
That’s a huge leap for 2025 – proof that mobile money is becoming a daily essential for Ghanaians.
What’s Driving the Surge?
Experts point to a few key factors:
More people ditching cash for quick mobile payments.
The Bank of Ghana and banks pushing hard for a cashless society.
Businesses, shops, and institutions now widely accepting mobile money.
All this is fueling the explosive growth in transaction values.
