Ghana to Introduce E-Visa System in Early 2026 to Ease Travel for Africans in the Diaspora

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the government plans to roll out an electronic visa (e-visa) system in the first quarter of 2026 as part of efforts to make travel to Ghana easier, faster and more affordable for Africans in the diaspora.
According to the minister, the proposed e-visa platform will simplify application procedures, reduce processing times and eliminate some of the bureaucratic challenges associated with obtaining Ghanaian visas through diplomatic missions abroad.
He explained that the initiative aligns with government’s broader vision of strengthening ties with the African diaspora, promoting tourism, trade and investment, and positioning Ghana as a welcoming gateway to the continent.
Mr Ablakwa added that the e-visa system is expected to leverage digital technology to improve efficiency, enhance transparency and reduce costs for applicants, while also supporting national security through improved data management.
Further details on eligibility, fees and implementation modalities are expected to be announced closer to the rollout date.
