Ghana to Announce World Cup Squad on June 1 — Kurt Okraku

President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has announced that Ghana’s official squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be unveiled on June 1.

The announcement follows the Ghana national football team’s 2-0 defeat to Mexico national football team in an international friendly match.

Despite the result, Okraku described the exercise as successful, particularly for the development of younger players and members of Ghana’s U-23 team preparing for upcoming Olympic qualifiers.

In a Facebook post after the match, he stated: “Objective accomplished! This event has provided significant stage exposure for the majority of our U-23 players, who will soon assemble for the Olympic qualifiers, as well as other players who had limited playing time.”

He added that the technical team benefited from the opportunity to assess players who are not regular members of the senior national team.

According to him, the friendly offered valuable experience to the youthful squad assembled for the game.

“This presents a considerable chance for our U-23 squad to garner essential experience, as they are not typically involved in matches of such high stature,” he noted.

Ghana fielded several fringe and home-based players in the encounter as preparations continue ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Okraku acknowledged that building cohesion within a largely inexperienced squad would take time but urged supporters to remain positive and continue backing the team.

“Next stop — Wales,” he wrote, referring to Ghana’s upcoming international friendly.

The Black Stars are expected to intensify preparations in the coming weeks as anticipation grows ahead of the official World Cup squad announcement on June 1.
