Ghana Summons Israeli Embassy Over “Inhumane” Treatment of Nationals at Ben Gurion Airport

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will summon Israeli Embassy officials in Accra on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, to address the alleged mistreatment of seven Ghanaian travelers, including four Members of Parliament, at Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport.
In a strongly worded statement, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa condemned the incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 7, 2025, upon the group’s arrival in Tel Aviv. The four lawmakers, part of a parliamentary delegation attending the Annual International Cybersecurity Conference, were detained for over five hours before being released following intense diplomatic efforts.
Three other Ghanaian nationals were deported on the next available flight and have since returned home.
The ministry described the actions of Israeli authorities as “deliberate targeting,” “extremely provocative,” and “unacceptable,” emphasizing that such conduct contradicts the longstanding friendly relations between Ghana and Israel.
Accra firmly rejected claims by Israeli officials that the detentions stemmed from non-cooperation by Ghana’s Embassy in Tel Aviv, stating that the mission has been fully compliant with international protocols.
Warning of potential reciprocal measures, the government said it is prepared to take appropriate action if the concerns are not satisfactorily resolved.
