Ghana Secures 1,000 Advance Tickets for Black Stars Supporters Ahead of 2026 World Cup – Kofi Adams

Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Iddie Adams, has disclosed that Ghana secured 1,000 tickets in advance for supporters of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the tournament as one of the most expensive and logistically challenging for fans.

Speaking  on Monday, June 1, the Minister explained that the competition’s hosting arrangement across three countries — the United States, Canada, and Mexico — has created major financial and travel difficulties for supporters.

According to him, this will be Ghana’s first experience participating in a World Cup hosted in North America, making preparations more complicated compared to previous tournaments.

“It is really nightmarish and a difficult one. This is the first time we are trying that. For us as a country, this is the first time we are playing a World Cup in that zone,” he stated.

Kofi Adams noted that Ghana did not qualify for the 1994 FIFA World Cup hosted by the United States, meaning the country has no previous experience handling supporter arrangements for a tournament in that region.

He revealed that FIFA’s advance ticket sales window enabled Ghana to secure tickets early before prices increased significantly.

“Luckily for us, we managed and planned very well and effectively. We ordered for 1,000. I believe that that is what has saved the situation because if we were waiting till now, it would have cost us huge sums of money to even get those number of tickets,” he explained.

The Minister clarified that the 1,000 tickets form part of a broader strategy to ensure strong Ghanaian support at the tournament.

He added that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and other organisations have also secured additional tickets and are making separate arrangements to support Ghanaian fans.

“I wouldn’t say only a thousand. The FA itself has secured some tickets. We have other organisations that also have secured tickets. They are all sponsoring Ghanaians to be able to get in there,” he said.

Kofi Adams expressed confidence that the combined efforts of stakeholders would ensure that more than 1,000 Ghanaian supporters attend the tournament to cheer on the Black Stars.

His comments follow recent remarks by President John Dramani Mahama, who announced that government would provide match tickets for Ghanaians living abroad who wish to support the national team during the World Cup.

The President explained that while government cannot afford to fully sponsor large groups travelling from Ghana due to the enormous costs involved, tickets have been secured for Ghanaian communities living in host cities to help ensure strong support for the Black Stars.

Ghana has been drawn in Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.

The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama before taking on England and Croatia in subsequent group matches.
