Ghana School Feeding Programme Completes Monitoring Exercise in Volta, Bono and Bono East Regions

The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) has successfully completed a one-week monitoring and supervision exercise in selected districts across the Volta, Bono and Bono East Regions.
The exercise, which ran from January 26 to January 30, 2026, focused on assessing the day-to-day implementation of the programme at the school level and ensuring compliance with approved standards for safe and nutritious school meals.
During the visits, the monitoring team inspected:
Kitchen equipment used by caterers
Condition and hygiene of eating utensils
Overall sanitation and hygiene standards at feeding centres
The team also examined daily feeding records, including the number of pupils served and the consistency of meals provided, to promote accurate reporting and accountability.
Particular attention was paid to the working relationship between caterers and school authorities, with emphasis on timely meal preparation and serving to avoid disrupting teaching and learning.
The GSFP reported that many caterers and schools are making commendable efforts to maintain acceptable hygiene standards and deliver nutritious meals. Where gaps were observed, caterers received practical guidance and recommendations to improve their operations.
The Programme expressed appreciation to all stakeholders — including caterers, headteachers, school authorities and district coordinators — for their cooperation and support, noting that such collaboration is vital to the long-term success and sustainability of the initiative.
The monitoring exercise is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen quality assurance, safeguard pupil health and improve service delivery across the country.
