Ghana Ranks 8th Globally in Daily Prayer Rate — Pew Research and World Bank Report

Ghana has been ranked eighth among countries with the highest daily prayer rates worldwide, according to a report by the Pew Research Center in collaboration with the World Bank.
The report, which examined daily prayer habits and the share of the population that prays every day, found that 73 percent of Ghanaians engage in daily prayer, placing the country among the world’s most religious nations.
Indonesia topped the global ranking, with 95 percent of its 269 million population praying daily. Kenya and Nigeria followed closely in second and third positions respectively, each recording an 84 percent daily prayer rate. Malaysia, the Philippines, Brazil, and Bangladesh also featured prominently on the list.
Ghana’s ranking reflects the country’s strong religious culture, where Christianity, Islam, and traditional beliefs continue to play a significant role in daily life and national identity.
Other countries in the top 20 include Sri Lanka, Colombia, India, South Africa, Türkiye, Peru, Singapore, the United States, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, and Greece, with daily prayer rates ranging from 72 percent to 37 percent.
The findings highlight wide global variations in religious practice, with African and Asian countries dominating the upper half of the rankings, while several Western nations recorded comparatively lower daily prayer rates.
