Ghana Freedom Party Endorses John Mahama Ahead of December 2024 Elections
The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), founded by the late Akua Donkor, has declared its support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama, ahead of the December 7, 2024, general elections.
The endorsement follows the Electoral Commission (EC) disqualifying GFP’s presidential candidate, Philip Appiah Kubi, popularly known as Roman Fada, due to irregularities in his nomination forms.
Announcing the decision at a press briefing on December 4, 2024, GFP Deputy General Secretary Jerry Addo explained that the party’s leadership reached this decision after thorough consultations. Addo highlighted shared values and policy alignment with the NDC as the primary reasons behind the endorsement, dismissing any notions of external influence.
“The Ghana Freedom Party is supporting the candidacy of H.E. John Dramani Mahama on Saturday. He is poised to capture power to save Ghanaians,” Addo stated. He added that the GFP had extensively reviewed the policies of all candidates before making its choice.
This move marks a strategic pivot for the GFP as they rally their supporters to back the NDC and its parliamentary candidates. The endorsement adds momentum to the growing coalition rallying behind John Dramani Mahama, reinforcing his bid to return to power.
