GFA Receives Over 600 Applications for Black Stars Head Coach Position After Otto Addo’s Exit

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has received an overwhelming response for the vacant Black Stars head coach position, with more than 600 applications submitted following the dismissal of Otto Addo.

GFA President Kurt Okraku confirmed the high number of applications, describing it as a clear sign of the international appeal and prestige of leading one of Africa’s most respected national teams.

“We have received over 600 applications for the Black Stars job,” Okraku stated in an interview reported by 3Sports.

The surge in interest follows the GFA’s decision to part ways with Otto Addo after a series of disappointing friendly results, including a 5-1 loss to Austria and a 2-1 defeat to Germany. The change was made in Stuttgart shortly after the Germany match, with the association aiming to refocus preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Okraku has indicated that the GFA hopes to announce a new head coach within the next one to two weeks to avoid any further disruption to the team’s build-up.

Upcoming Fixtures

Ghana is already preparing for a busy schedule, including upcoming friendlies against Mexico and Wales. The Black Stars will then face a challenging group stage at the 2026 World Cup, where they have been drawn against Panama, Croatia, and England.

The GFA is under pressure to appoint a coach who can quickly stabilise the team, instil confidence, and deliver results in the remaining preparation period.

The high volume of applications is expected to give the technical selection committee a wide pool of candidates, ranging from experienced international coaches to promising local tacticians.
