GFA President Kurt Okraku & Black Stars Technical Team Visit Maternity Ward at Greater Accra Regional Hospital

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, accompanied by head coach Otto Addo and members of the Black Stars technical team, visited the maternity ward of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital on Monday, February 16, 2026.
The delegation — which included assistant coaches Desmond Ofei, Alain Ravera, and Kim Lars Björkegren — spent time connecting with new mothers and their newborn babies as part of ongoing efforts to build national unity and engage personally with Ghanaians ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Okraku described the visit as more than ceremonial, calling it an opportunity to celebrate life and strengthen the bond between the national team and the public.
“We spent quality time with new mothers and their newborn babies,” he said. “It’s essential to remember that the Black Stars are part of every Ghanaian’s life.”
The coaches interacted with families, offered words of encouragement, and shared their excitement about the upcoming World Cup qualifiers and finals. They emphasised that representing Ghana goes beyond football — it’s about fostering pride and unity across the nation.
“Our commitment to the national team is not just about football, but about contributing to national pride and togetherness,” the technical team highlighted during the visit.
The hospital engagement forms part of the GFA’s broader community outreach strategy in the lead-up to the 2026 World Cup (co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico). With qualification still in progress, the association believes such heartfelt initiatives help boost morale, inspire support, and remind Ghanaians of the collective effort needed for success on the global stage.
President Okraku reaffirmed the GFA’s commitment to continuing similar engagements with communities across the country, reinforcing the role of the Black Stars as a unifying force in Ghanaian society.
The visit received widespread praise online, with many commending the team for showing humility, empathy and a genuine connection with ordinary Ghanaians.
