GFA Mourns Berekum Chelsea Player Dominic Frimpong Killed in Highway Robbery Attack

The Ghana Football Association has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic death of Dominic Frimpong, who was killed during a violent highway robbery attack on Sunday night.

Frimpong, a player for Berekum Chelsea, lost his life after the team’s bus was reportedly ambushed by armed robbers along the Bibiani–Goaso road while returning from a Ghana Premier League match.

The team had earlier suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to FC Samartex at DUN’s Park in their Matchday 29 fixture.

According to reports, the attackers opened fire on the team bus, causing panic among players and officials. In a desperate attempt to escape, occupants fled into nearby bushes.

Amid the chaos, Frimpong sustained a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident has sent shockwaves through Ghana’s football community, with calls for enhanced security for teams travelling across the country.

The GFA is expected to work closely with security agencies as investigations into the attack continue.
