GFA Confirms Carlos Queiroz as New Black Stars Head Coach

The Ghana Football Association has officially confirmed the appointment of Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Ghana national football team.
The experienced Portuguese tactician arrived in Accra on Wednesday evening and is set to be officially unveiled on Thursday, April 23, 2026, as he begins his tenure with the national team ahead of the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
Queiroz brings a wealth of experience to the role, having managed top clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester United, as well as several national teams including Portugal national football team, Iran national football team, and South Africa national football team. His international pedigree includes leading Portugal to the knockout stage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and guiding Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 tournaments.
His appointment follows the departure of Otto Addo, whose stint ended after a run of inconsistent results. Queiroz has reportedly signed a short-term, four-month contract with a clear mandate to steer Ghana through the World Cup qualifiers and secure qualification for the tournament to be hosted in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Upon arrival at Kotoka International Airport, Queiroz was received by officials of the GFA and enthusiastic fans, all eager to see the direction he will take the team. His first official assignment will include a presentation to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, marking the beginning of what many hope will be a successful new chapter for the Black Stars.
