Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Discharged from UGMC After Serious Road Accident

The Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has been officially discharged from the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) following a clean bill of health from medical experts.

The revered Ga monarch was released shortly after a personal visit by President John Dramani Mahama, who checked on his condition and wished him a full and speedy recovery. The discharge concludes a week of intensive clinical assessments and monitoring after the King was involved in a serious motor accident on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

The incident occurred in the evening on the Pai-Katanga stretch of the Oti highway while the King’s convoy was returning to Accra from the Northern Region. Palace officials described the trip as a private visit at the invitation of the Ya Naa, aimed at strengthening traditional ties and unity between the Ga and Dagbon kingdoms.

Despite the severity of the collision, no fatalities were recorded. The King and members of his entourage received immediate assistance from the Ghana Police Service and royal staff present at the scene. They were subsequently evacuated to Accra for specialised care at UGMC.

A statement from the Office of the Ga Mantse, signed by Chief of Protocol and Communications Amb. (Sir) S.J.K. Parker-Allotey, confirmed the swift recovery: “His Royal Majesty has been given a clean bill of health following comprehensive medical evaluations. The King’s condition has improved remarkably, and he is now stable and ready to return home.”

In the statement, the Ga Mantse expressed profound gratitude to emergency responders, the medical team at UGMC, and the Ghana Police Service for their professionalism and dedication. He also thanked the public, traditional leaders, religious bodies, and well-wishers across Ghana and the diaspora for their prayers, messages of support, and concern during the tense period.

“With the King now back at his residence, the Ga State prepares for his first public appearance following the accident,” the statement added, signaling a return to normalcy for the Ga Traditional Council.

The accident sparked widespread concern and prayers nationwide, reflecting the deep respect and influence the Ga Mantse holds as the paramount chief of the Ga people and a key figure in Ghana’s traditional leadership landscape.

His safe discharge and recovery have been widely welcomed as a relief to the Ga State and the broader nation, with many expressing hope for his continued good health and leadership. Further details on upcoming engagements or public appearances are expected from the palace in due course.
