Four Suspects Arrested in Violent Roadside Robberies in Wa West District

Police in the Wa West District have arrested four suspects in connection with a series of armed robberies along the Gadi-Chogsia stretch, where masked attackers ambushed travellers emerging from nearby bushes.
The arrests followed two separate incidents in recent weeks. In the first attack on February 28, 2026, a teacher named Thomas Dormatey was shot in the leg and robbed of his mobile phone and GH¢2,600. The assailants, armed with firearms and machetes, struck again on March 8, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., targeting Issah Ibrahim as he returned from Jagluu. He lost his phone and GH¢2,750.
In both cases, the suspects concealed themselves in the bushes before launching sudden attacks on unsuspecting victims.
Three of the suspects — Iddrisu Sidibey, 19, Abdulai Bandey, 20, and Suleman Issah Zibrim, 23 — were arrested at Chogsia and positively identified by the victims. During the operation, police recovered two cutlasses and four mobile phones.
On March 11, 2026, Abdulai Bandey led officers to arrest a fourth suspect, Abdul Rahman Abdulai, at Gojiyiri near Wechiau. He is believed to have supplied the firearm used in the attacks. The weapon was later recovered from a bush where it had been hidden.
Two other suspects, identified only as Adil and Sambo, remain at large, and police say efforts to apprehend them are ongoing.
All four arrested suspects have been arraigned before the Wa District Magistrate Court and remanded into custody. They are scheduled to reappear on March 26, 2026.
The police have urged residents and travellers in the area to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and avoid travelling alone at dusk or in isolated sections of the road. Authorities have assured the public that investigations are continuing to ensure full justice for the victims and to prevent further incidents.
